Should I cruise with my toddler?

When families are considering their next amazing vacay experience, this question comes up quite often. Lots of families want to experience a cruise but aren't sure about whether or not to do it with a small child. Here's my recommendations...

First, let's just answer the question: Should I cruise with my toddler? YES!

Second, let's qualify that answer: Depending on which cruise line you choose.

Choosing a cruise line tailored toward families with small children will provide a great experience for your entire family as well as offer childcare options for the littlest of cruisers. If you choose a cruise line that doesn't offer these programs, then obviously you are limiting yourself and your toddler, possibly leading to a less-than-desirable cruise. It's also important to note that cruise lines who

don't cater to families tend to attract an adult population who are honestly looking to get away from children, and who may not appreciate a toddler on their cruise in public spaces. I'm just telling it like it is.

But when you cruise with a family-friendly line you are setting yourself up for cruising success! With everything from infant/toddler drop-off childcare to private, in-room babysitting services, these lines have invested in even their youngest cruisers. So which cruise lines are we talking about? For the best in family-friendly cruising, I recommend Royal Caribbean, Disney, Norwegian, and MSC. While each of these lines vary in their programming and onboard spaces, they have dedicated programs and activities that speaks "toddler". On most of the ships in these lines you'll have access to water parks designed specifically for small children, outdoor play spaces, and indoor childcare clubs that are divided by ages.

I also like to recommend that families choose stateroom options that allow them ample space within the room for the kiddos to play. Since you aren't limited on luggage for cruises you have the option to bring some toys from home that will make your space feel more familiar to your toddler as well as give them something to do during their time there.

Starting the kiddos out young creates a love for cruising that will last a lifetime and create memories you will never forget! When you're ready to book your cruise, reach out to me for recommendations for specific ships and staterooms that will make it just perfect for your family. Happy cruising!
